My Mom knitted and crocheted for years learning it from my Dads Mom. She had a shop in Pella for many years,"Grandma's Yarn & Needle craft. She always had some project across her lap working on it. When I came back to help her that's the first thing I noticed was that she wasn't doing it anymore, I got her started back in it thinking it would be a good thing but soon learned why she had stoped, she couldn't keep track of the stitches anymore. My daughters picked up the craft from their Mom who was taught by my mom. A while back at Spire Coffee House in Knoxville I saw some young girls there Knitting I introduced my self and hated with them, it was so good to see these girls keeping it going.
I LOVE this story - thank you, Bob and Jason! And I agree with Jen Geigley - this 250th Trumpified 'celebration' does not appeal to me at all. Trump and his lackeys ellbowed out the official group appointed to lead planning for the 250th - probably because former presidents had been appointed to that group several years ago. Which explains why the White House lawn is now ruined by the cage-fighting [so appropriate, though, when you think about it!] and why no one is attending Trump's 'State Fair.'
I too believe this 250th business certsinly doesn't reflect the reality of the current government we are assending into. I can only hope we can pull ourselves out of the jaws of Trump's version of his cage fight on the Whitehouse lawn! The Mid-Term election, assuming it even happens, will be telling, either we get rid of is power grab of Congress and hopefully the Senate, or we turn back the clock to where this business of Democracy all started. Patriotism was founded in revolution and peaceful protests, we formed this government around "the people" not the President, not the Congress and certainly not a Supreme Court that has been bought and paid for by anyone. Holding office should be considered an honor, no a way to monetary gain by failing to represent the very people who elected them! By vertue of the fact that "Corporations" can not cast a vote in an election should say that absolutely they are not people! They don't go to jail for acts they fail to do, they have no need for medical care, food, or personaal justice. They are created to build wealth and failing to do that, their existance ends, as it should. Our basic rights as citizens were written into the Constitution and Bill of Rights, they should never end. Birthright Citizenship is exactly what it is, a right! Not something you can quibble about! We need to move on, we need people to stand up and be counted when it comes to impeaching anyone who willfully violates the Constitution who swore to uphold it, no matter which party is in power. The rule of law is supposed to be our standard, there are no exceptions, even for Presidents or their lackies. Don't give up the ship! Fight like hell for what has been our birthright of the past and defeat this growing cancer on Democracy!
OOPS!! My Apologies

Three very noteworthy Iowans. Thanks Bob and Jason for introducing me to people I wish were in my neighborhood.
