My friend was the niece of Myron Floren the accordion player in the Lawrence Welk orchestra for 32 years. We had dinner together after a performance at the Val Air ballroom. He was “in his cups” as they say, and a great time it was. I’ll save my Jerry Garcia stories for another time.
Beautiful, Bob. Well done. And what a treasure trove of stories driving a cab had to give you! So glad you wrote them down. It's a gift to the world and to cab drivers everywhere.
Great story! I'm always amazed at how many people we know in common, Ann Wilkinson was a classmate of mine. I know a few other thespians that were at Central maybe you know them too?
This is not the first time a tear is running down my cheek when I get to the end of one of your stories. I hope it's not the last. So often you are exactly where the universe needs you to be creating and telling the stories that people need to hear.
Thanks for this beautiful memory. You're an inspiration to keep writing and telling our own stories. This brought to mind my John Denver tickets (at Red Rocks) that I never got to use.
Wasn’t aware of the book until now, but you’ve shared an occasional story about the eclectic people who ride cabs at night. This one is terrific. Please let me share a couple stories about musicians and their entourage’s someday. I believe you’ll believe them. Truth truly is stranger than fiction.
This is a very high bar, Robert, but this may be my favorite story of yours. "Forever Young" has similar meaning to me. Your life as a cab driver clearly has added to the wonderfully open perspective you have on the world. Thank you for sharing this one!
When we spoke at the Farmers Union barn party, you reminded me of all of the stories I need to write down. I tell them often enough that my kids can tell them, but you know, something about the written word.
My unwritten story is about Arlo Guthrie at the Maintenance Shop, circa 1980.
I'm sure Bob was encouraging. I'll say the same - the difference between being a writer and not being a writer...is that you write. Hope to see your story someday!
Great stories seem to generate around hard times when good fortune comes in small packages! As always, accidental things that happen and how you handle them can reverberate with the listener in many ways and often positive ways. Your story is exactly that, A GREAT STORY! You should be proud of it!
Another great story, Dr. Bob. Thank you. This story is yet another great example of how you think of others before yourself.
Also, I am going to look for your book about the Yellow Cab.
Found it!
I hope you like it! Good to see you the other night.
I am sure I will. It is always good to see you, Dr. Bob.

Some of us know this about Sir Roderick David Stewart, but many don't. It's a train thing again!!
You have been a kind man for long time Dr. Bob Leonard. Of course your friend's name popped into your head. Of course it did.
Thanks, Paul! And I had no idea he was interested in model railroads! That was a great interview.
Whenever and wherever it’s convenient. I’m buying and guarantee you’ll be amazed and amused.

Thank you for this beautiful story, Bob. You are a man with such a generosity of spirit. It comes through in everything you write.

Ah, I love it when stories generate more stories…

Sure!
I once got to eat supper with Roy Clark and his band at the Highlander in Iowa City. What a HOOT!
Thanks for that!
Sweet, amazing story. Thanks, Bob.

I can't wait to read it!

You are certainly welcome Dr. Bob! Keep um coming!
