Great to see the two of you working together. RE: Schumer. It's no secret that I do not think he does his job well. The job is (1) "inside baseball" which Schumer does very well, counting votes, making key issues pass, but (2) the public job -- messaging and recruiting candidates, are not his skill.
I'll write more about this another time, but for Turek and his endorsement of Schumer. Fine. Endorsements are based on experience with an elected official, and particularly because of Turek's commitment for better healthcare, Schumer has been a strong voice for health care and also for Harkin's American with Disabilities Act. These are a good match with Turek.
A great broadcast. I could not watch live, but I listened this morning. Bob, I agree with what I take as your position. Honesty and authenticity are paramount. Discerning Democrats will spot spin type covers immediately. We all try to put ourselves in as positive a light as we can, but questions should be answered honestly right away. If there are reasons, they can be given. Mistakes should be admitted with explanations of what has been learned. Maybe Wahls expected that in first class there would be key persons with whom he needed to make contact and have the chance to be in conversation. If he leaves it hanging it seems as if he was simply enjoying a perk he didn't have to pay for.
Turek also mentioned that he voted for that immigration bill during the Biden presidency--that is to say, he didn't vote for mandating that Iowa law enforcement cooperate with ICE in the context of how Trump is using ICE.
Although Turek didn't mention it, I think it is relevant that the three Democrats who voted for that bill (Senate File 2340 in 2024) all represented marginal districts. It's easier for someone from Johnson County to vote against a bill like that than for someone whose constituents voted for Trump.
For those who want more background, here is background on bill, which the ACLU of Iowa has challenged on behalf of the Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice:

Thank you. Great points.
There’s many reasons why I enjoy you both dissecting and discussing events like these. Thanks.
