In the big scheme of things I think this issue is a red herring. Anyone who has done fund raising knows money has to be spent to raise money. Zach is not a grifter nor is Josh a Fettermann. If people really want change for Iowa's Senatorial representation focus on the best possible outcome for the June primary. Josh and Zach are both credible and earnest candidates.

Maybe it is just me, but closing the gate after the cow is out, seems to be a common bad response the party leasdership makes way to often. They also rely on others "word" things are OK, when they certainly are not! Such was the situation in "working to get all the numbers in on the caucus in on a timely manner, the very last time Iowa was going to be "first in the nation". It completely failed, and I don't think we ever got the results to this day! One would have thought someone would have been found to "fix the blame", but I don't recall that happening. Since I supported Bernie Sanders, it certainly had the look and feel of "the fix was in" to make sure Iowa wouldn't show strong support for a "non-democrat" socialist running for President! Obviously that failure ended our first in the nation importance, and turned the attention on the eastern primaries that weren't so wildly uncontrolable as Iowa Democratic voters! I remain unconvinced either party has the interest of the voter at heart and remain a democrat in order to sort out the wheat from the chafe as best I can and help those running on a progressive platform as I am able. The rest, well, they rely on money to get elected and are beholden to those who gave it to them in huge chunks, and not the majority of the people who voted.

Another nontroversy because.. why? Trump and MAGA Republicans tried to violently overthrow the U.S. government. Can we please stay focused? This so-called "excellent" reporter ran with something that in the end turned out to be a nontroversy... effing bs imho

Your prompt follow up and published information regarding the matter is very important for everyone. Thanks, Bob.

Political campaigns and flaks never understand the negative power of no comment. I am curious if The Examiner allowed time for the response but such a response should not have required much time.

I didn’t write this, but my immediate reaction was that it was a big mistake, and that they were hiding something. We’ll see if more comes of this. Thanks, Lyle.

I looked on the IDP's website and couldn't find any statement posted about this. But when I asked for comment they directed me to the same link:

https://iowademocrats.org/2026/04/01/senator-wahls-followed-appropriate-reimbursement-process/

It would have been more helpful to post that on the "media" section on their website.

Excellent reporting, as always. Was Iowa Dem Party dragging its feet on this to benefit one candidate?

Robert Leonard's avatar

Thank you. I’m not sure. This may not be the end of it, as I had hoped. We’ll see.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you, Bob. I will read any of your writings on this matter. I also would like to know more about Turek in view of one of the other comments that implies he would be a Fetterman. The country needs true progressives with the incredible corrections needed after this MAGA regression and destruction of the country. I want someone who will side with Bernie Sanders and AOC. Surely, there can be this talk of having to mold oneself to the perception of Iowans wanting nothing bold. But I hope for candidates who are inspiring, not Republican "light."

Like Laura Belin said, he’s no Fetterman, although I understand the concern. I think Turek is the real deal, as I have written a couple of times. I hope you get a chance to meet him in person, Scott.

I don't speak for any candidate but I think it is very unfair to accuse Turek of being like Fetterman.

Yes Fetterman is in a class by himself !
