Another way of putting it: humor is not only for millionaire late-night comedians, whose influence grows weaker by the day. Laughter needs to be harnessed more broadly, not on TV but in the street. Of course we aren't going to solve our problems with jokes. These problems run too deep. But laughter can expose the weakness of authoritarian poseurs.
I used to point and laugh when a Tesla pickup truck drove past. After the DOGE cuts, and millions are dead or dying, my laughter has ended. With the Washington Post, CBS, Wall Street Journal, Atlanta Constitution Journal and others, capitulating to an authoritarian regime; the truth seems like it’s in the intensive care unit.
The giraffe is definitely on to something. So is "Where's the line?"
Literally, that is. Defined distance between "law enforcement" and protestors could be a very good thing. Effective. Satisfying. And a cool-down/de-escalation. "Interfering with federal acts" becomes less subjective. Thanks to the woman who shouted ... thank you for passing on your friend's writing.
I thought the law read protestors must stay on sidewalks, or it should. if these did and kept mouths civil and respective it would be a lot different, for the better. But they won't, u can see that of course!
I don't believe 'executed' is correct in any way. I don't believe the agent was correct in what the the outcome was. But, I don't believe what she was doing or then appeared to be, intentionally parked crossways on a public street to cause a problem, was correct also. Both did stupid things and look what happened. The agent evidently panicked because of what had happened to him previously by a protester in a car though did not totally justify his actions, of course we all must admit it possibly had a bearing on the terrible event, and unfortunately a life was ended. In my opinion to call it 'executed' could be another way to encourage people to get wound up. I can't say she was driving away slowly, but does appear she was purposely turning the car into him and not stopping. IF the car had knocked him down and she drove over him doing great bodily damage OR even killed him, how would that be defined??? Using a vehicle to intentionally and knowingly able to hurt someone is a weapon also. Please don't give me that Nazi crap, in my opinion it's a way to to wind people up. I put a lot of blame on what Governor and mayor have been doing causing ICE to come in to clean things up, making some bad mistakes and all this to come to a head. Just some thoughts. Have a goody.
You need to watch the video again. Frame by frame. We can debate word choices all you want, but the US government is killing people on the street. Going house to house, arresting people and deporting them with no due process. Look up the word fascism. What is happening fits. If Biden had done any of this, you would have been up in arms, I suspect. Thanks.
Word choices can be very intentionally misleading and as a trained 'journalist' knows very well. My goodness how many is it the U.S. government is killing on the streets? Do u think it's as many as the illegal gang members are killing? Or illegal drug dealers are killing? Or illegal rapists are choking? How did u respond when Obama n Biden deported thousands of illegals, were u up in arms? I don't remember massive disruptive protests or kicking or doing damage to law enforcement vehicles. Were they spitting in the faces of law enforcement, calling them vile and vulgar names or throwing items at them If it happened so bad why didn't I see it on national news. Of course I was nose to the grindstone operating my business and hardly ever in house to watch such. I sure wasn't upset at all because it made sense to me. Does ur answer have anything to do with the fact Huseign n Joe were Democrat???? Laugh and giggle. I don't care which party does deportation of any illegals, which can include gang members, fraudsters and felonious law breakers. I don't know for sure if ICE has gone house to house, only what people say and u know how credible that is. Pretty good chances it would be a little biased and misleading? I would also assume, matter of fact I could probably point some out, that there are areas of cities it would make sense to go house to house, ya know birds of a feather etc. U know, efficiency of time. Well, it sure appears to me watching she went from non-moving to turning wheels left and moving toward the agent. Why not turn to right, which was her angle in blocking a public street, To me she probably just wanted to cause more confrontation and trouble, but what do I know? Due process; for all the illegals living here they know darn well the consequences of their actions and decisions!! I know of ones are very scared at this time, IF I was one I would be too. I have looked up fascism and I understand it. Wow, I need to quit asking so many questions and thoughts and get more productive work done. My life is running out fast. Hang in there, it sure isn't pretty.
Few of the people being detained are the violent ones he said he was after. He stepped in front of her. She did turn to the right. Obama followed due process. Believe what you want, but fascism is here, and you seem fine with it. I think you are better than that.
Yes, word choices can be intentionally misleading. The President said that Good "violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer." Is that true, in the video? Did the officer get run over? In your post above, you write "IF the car had knocked him down." It would appear that you don't agree with the President's account. This isn't a partisan issue--I would say the same regardless of the politician or party, when faced with documentary evidence that contradicts the claim. I trust my eyes.
Thanks Bob, It's hard not to shout out and shout back at these terrible things ICE, Trump and the republicans are doing. It is so maddening, I have PTTSD- Post(trump second term) traumatic stress disorder! Now he is talking about Republicans running the elections?? Every day it's something new. King George, was Insane when the revolution happened, I think Trump is insane too. What ever it takes we have to get him OUT!

I’m looking for humor anywhere I can find it.
I hear you. And humor isn't just escapist. It can be a practical tactic.
Sticking my neck out on humor, Jay Kuo has a substack (StatusKuo) on serious topics with a regular piece full of humor. https://statuskuo.substack.com/p/just-for-skeets-and-giggles-8225
If you don't mind crude humor, "everyone is entitled to my own opinion" by Jeff Tiedrich

Then again, given the vulgarity of Trump and his political acolytes, it seems normal to use coarse humor
Great read. Thanks for sharing your platform Bob!

Do, I must admit that I was influenced by the second photo, which I learned was fake. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/ai-altered-photos-videos-minneapolis-shootings-blur-reality-rcna256552

Bob - Your writing is always so clear, so apt, so inspiring, so well-thought-out. Thank you.
The Orwell quote comes from his 1941 essay "England Your England," written during The Blitz.
