Thanks for sharing your truth, Bob. It's important to put stories like these out there. I like the idea of removing our "binary gogles." I feel like this will be a challenge for me to retrain my brain. I can say that I've become less judgemental of others' appearances in recent years. Maybe that's the first step. I've recently become aware of Sid High, too. I hope he becomes the face of new leadership in Iowa!
What a wonderful column. I am so discouraged at times living in an Iowa that I no longer recognize but after reading your words I have hope that we can get through this dark time. Thank you again neighbor. - Julie Hansen Oskaloosa, Iowa
I shared it with my niece who is a OB/gyn doctor. She wrote back to say that she has been working to get a gender affirming clinic started and this gave her a kick in the butt. One never knows the reach we have with our writing. Thank you.
I am so touched by your writing, in this piece and so many of your other posts. You have a knack for seeing what others don't and for talking about them with such power. Thanks for again talking about taboo topics, without fear.
What a remarkable piece! I thank you on behalf of my family and friends who are struggling with these matters. Your suggestion about "dropping the binary goggles" was brilliant and I think will prove helpful to many.

Go to a big event with lots of people. Or a shopping mall. The change will happen in just a few minutes. Thanks Gordie!

Thank you very much!
Thank you for this moving essay Bob. Your piece topped with the video is incredible. I will share this with lots of folks once my tears have dried.
Thank you so much Denise. The video says it all. And it was so amazing I heard the song as I was finishing the piece...
